In collaboration with Nicole Duprée (Indigo in Green/Ampersand Textile,) Gabrielle Patterson (People’s Kitchen Philly) and (Gabe Castro) Termite TV Collective, join us for a two-part workshop and celebration around plant-printing and relationship-building.

On Saturday, August 31st:

Share plant stories and create two kinds of botanical prints: sunprints using turmeric and rubbings using color blocks made from turmeric, beeswax, and finely ground yellow rock.

Together, we will create a larger collective piece with samples of all the selected plants from the garden. Sun tea will be served.

On October 4th:

Mark your calendars for the People’s Kitchen’s Harvest dinner event at Reinhard Street Community Farm on October 4th!

On Friday, November 1st:

A zine compiling the workshop’s prints, relationships, and plants will be available for purchase as fundraising for People’s Kitchen Philly at Termite TV Collective’s studio at Cherry Street Pier.

Join us for a nourishing plant connection practice over a cup of tea from The Random Tea Room, and then make and take your own nature rubbings & plant prints

About the Facilitators:

Nicole Duprée is a teaching artist and founder of Indigo in Green–a Philadelphia-based creative workshop producing artisanal, natural art supplies and educational resources. For nature art tutorials, field trips to Philly green spaces, and projects featuring local artists watch Indigo in Green on Philly CAM and YouTube.

Gabrielle Patterson is a multidisciplinary artist based in Philadelphia. With work spanning animation, film, illustration, and installation, she creates immersive mixed-media worlds through light, color, texture, and sound. Gabrielle is also a member of Bonfire Media Collective, a worker-owned video production cooperative telling human stories that catalyze social change. In collaboration with the Human Rights Coalition, Gabrielle co-directed and produced Bonfire’s 2023 documentary film, I Can’t Breathe: The Toxic Prisons Campaign’s Fight for Environmental Justice. This powerful documentary exposes the connections between environmental injustice and the carceral system, amplifying the voices of those fighting for the rights of incarcerated individuals from both inside and outside prison walls.

This year, Gabrielle is collaborating with The People’s Kitchen and their community farm in Southwest Philly as a Leeway Foundation Media Artist + Activist Resident. Throughout 2024, Gabrielle has worked closely with Ben Miller of PKP to grow awareness of the farm within the Southwest Philadelphia community, deepen relationships with neighbors, and provide engaging activities for all ages. As Artist-in-Resident, Gabrielle has facilitated art workshops, created videos and illustrations for social media, and begun production on a mixed-media short film showcasing the farm as a place of connection for community members through the personal stories of dedicated stewards and volunteers.
