Perpetual Repair – Julie Woodard Exhibition

This collection threads together four years of mourning, curiosity, practice, and play. Stains, holes, and history are stitched behind windowsills, stuffed into birds, woven among ocean waves, and painted above mountain ranges. My work reflects a constellation of ways that mending may manifest in our minds, bodies, environment, and communities.
Artifacts from lost loved ones, scraps from strangers, items purchased secondhand, and materials salvaged from the street are all transformed and intertwined. Remnants have been hand-dyed with indigo, screenprinted with pattern, and stretched to new forms. The process is slow, and the repair is perpetual.
I hope you find a home in this work–something that inspires your own art practice or helps to mend an ache in your heart. Perhaps you’ll be transported to a memory of a walk in the woods, a birdsong that comforts you, or a well-loved stoop down your block. Come and sit for a while. There’s always more mending to do.
