SUMMARY:First Friday: Gallery Opening with Lisa Marie and Deb Rudman
DESCRIPTION:Join us October 4\, 5pm – 8pm for the First Friday opening reception at Cherry Street Pier’s Studio 101. \nIn honor of American Archives Month\, Termite TV Collective will showcase work by Deb Rudman and Lisa Marie Patzer at Cherry Street Pier\, October 4-31. \nThe show features reflections on an archive of 35mm slides by photographer Ben Kabakow. The images Kabakow captured during the mid-1950’s reflect life in New York City and travels to popular tourist locations. Sample Portrait\, a video by Kabakow’s granddaughter Deb Rudman\, is an intimate portrait of Kabakow’s life\, relationships\, and love of photography. In Chromatographic Landscapes\, a series of prints and reverse-lit art panels\, Lisa Marie Patzer utilizes various digital chroma-based processes to sort\, separate out\, and reconfigure images from a collection of over a thousand 35mm slides. \nHer treatment of this large archive of analog imagery emphasizes the role nostalgia and personal association play when interpreting another’s visual anthology.

SUMMARY:Direct Animation on 16mm Workshop with Craig Scheihing
DESCRIPTION:Join us in this one-day workshop at Cherry Street Pier – Termite TV Collective’s studio 101 – where participants will use additive and subtractive methods of directly effecting and animating on the 16mm film surface. \nWe will use paints\, markers\, stickers\, scratching\, and other methods to explore the potentials of film as a physical medium rather than (or in addition to) a photographic container. After a discussion of the process and its place within the context of experimental filmmaking and a collective demonstration of techniques\, each participant will have time and materials to create their own compositions and sequences. \nThis workshop is open to anyone\, regardless of any prior experience with film or photography. \nAbout the artist: \nCraig Scheihing is an artist based in New York City. His work has been screened\, performed\, and exhibited around the world in film festivals\, museums\, basements\, bars\, beneath bridges\, in cinemas\, vacant lots\, galleries\, garages\, universities\, yards\, and in-between.
