SUMMARY:Mending Video Exhibition at Cherry Street Pier
DESCRIPTION:About the show: Over 9 weeks\, 23 media artists from Termite TV & PhillyCAM created 18 short films reflecting on the theme of “Mending.”  In Termite’s unique “collage show” format; we collaboratively select a theme\, and participating video artists create 1- to 5-minute pieces that relate to the theme. Through this format\, we can approach a topic or concept with many different voices and perspectives.  This Termite methodology has been described as “video jazz” and “cubist television.” The exhibit also features work created in a series of workshops where artists explored the Mending theme through sewing\, photo embroidery\, and various painting experiences including botanical watercolors\, mixing watercolor and oil pastel\, and learning to abstract our perspectives through observation and mixed media. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this exhibition\, artists reframe mending as a profound emotional and spiritual architecture. Through an intimate collection of video art\, photography\, and tactile mixed media installations\, the works on display trace deeply personal journeys through the landscapes of vulnerability\, grief\, and healing. \nFeaturing the work of: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\ngabe castro\nMichael Kuetemeyer\nAnula Shetty\nDebbie Rudman\nAlan Powell\nLaura Deutch\nIngrid Raphaël\nJulie Woodard\nDuwenavue Santé Johnson\nMegan Llewellyn\nJ. SUMMARY:Intro to Visible Mending with Julie Woodard
DESCRIPTION:A skill-share workshop where observation becomes inspiration. \n\n\n\n\nJoin artist Julie Woodard in exploring some foundational methods for creatively extending the life of items in your closet. Bring along a garment with a hole\, snag\, or stain that you’d like to repair (non-stretch heavyweight cotton or wool is ideal).  Julie will provide an overview of visible mending techniques\, tools\, and tips for getting started\, from understanding different types of fibers\, to practicing basic stitches\, to the art of designing a patch. In addition\, this workshop will explore how mending can be an essential component of a mindfulness practice. You’ll go home with a calm mind\, a visibly mended garment\, and the skills and creative inspiration to continue repairing and revitalizing items in your wardrobe. Basic hand sewing experience is helpful\, but not required. \nParticipants should bring: \nA garment to mend (non-stretch heavyweight cotton or wool is ideal) \nFavorite fabric scraps (optional)  *A big part of Julie’s textile practice centers around repurposing items that belonged to her loved ones or were salvaged from interesting places. If you have any textiles from home that you’d like to integrate into your repair\, please bring them along. We’ll share stories as we create. \n**No technical skills are required. Contact us if you have questions!
