SUMMARY:Mending Video Exhibition at Cherry Street Pier
DESCRIPTION:About the show: Over 9 weeks\, 23 media artists from Termite TV & PhillyCAM created 18 short films reflecting on the theme of “Mending.”  In Termite’s unique “collage show” format; we collaboratively select a theme\, and participating video artists create 1- to 5-minute pieces that relate to the theme. Through this format\, we can approach a topic or concept with many different voices and perspectives.  This Termite methodology has been described as “video jazz” and “cubist television.” The exhibit also features work created in a series of workshops where artists explored the Mending theme through sewing\, photo embroidery\, and various painting experiences including botanical watercolors\, mixing watercolor and oil pastel\, and learning to abstract our perspectives through observation and mixed media. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this exhibition\, artists reframe mending as a profound emotional and spiritual architecture. Through an intimate collection of video art\, photography\, and tactile mixed media installations\, the works on display trace deeply personal journeys through the landscapes of vulnerability\, grief\, and healing. \nFeaturing the work of: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\ngabe castro\nMichael Kuetemeyer\nAnula Shetty\nDebbie Rudman\nAlan Powell\nLaura Deutch\nIngrid Raphaël\nJulie Woodard\nDuwenavue Santé Johnson\nMegan Llewellyn\nJ. SUMMARY:Intro to Visible Mending with Julie Woodard
DESCRIPTION:A skill-share workshop where observation becomes inspiration. \n\n\n\n\nJoin artist Julie Woodard in exploring some foundational methods for creatively extending the life of items in your closet. Bring along a garment with a hole\, snag\, or stain that you’d like to repair (non-stretch heavyweight cotton or wool is ideal).  Julie will provide an overview of visible mending techniques\, tools\, and tips for getting started\, from understanding different types of fibers\, to practicing basic stitches\, to the art of designing a patch. In addition\, this workshop will explore how mending can be an essential component of a mindfulness practice. You’ll go home with a calm mind\, a visibly mended garment\, and the skills and creative inspiration to continue repairing and revitalizing items in your wardrobe. Basic hand sewing experience is helpful\, but not required. \nParticipants should bring: \nA garment to mend (non-stretch heavyweight cotton or wool is ideal) \nFavorite fabric scraps (optional)  *A big part of Julie’s textile practice centers around repurposing items that belonged to her loved ones or were salvaged from interesting places. If you have any textiles from home that you’d like to integrate into your repair\, please bring them along. We’ll share stories as we create. \n**No technical skills are required. SUMMARY:Collective Futures - Parallel Play Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Interactive\, collaborative workshop in community & experimental media \n\n\n\n\nEating Its Own Boundaries: Termite TV Collective’s Theories of Change and Media Activism\nTrack: Relational Infrastructures\nPresented by Termite TV Collective\nIn this workshop\, members of the Termite TV Collective will present the expressive and political possibilities opened up through different Termite methodologies. We will discuss Termite collaborative processes as applied in classrooms\, community groups\, cable access stations\, and regeneratively across time\, space\, and media modalities. These brief presentations to present and contextualize Termite’s expansive body of work\, will be followed by an opportunity for participants of the workshop to engage more actively with Termite methodology and concepts in exploring the theme of “Mending”. Given that the Termite ethos is for work (and communities) to proliferate\, we will lead participants through short exercises relevant to Termite projects. Not only does this offer workshop participants a chance to apply Termite methods to their own (teaching and production) practices and ideas\, but we also aim to expand the Termite creative community through these acts of active–even if momentary– collaboration in the collective.

SUMMARY:First Friday: Dunu Artists in Residence\, Joy Waldinger and Lee Bird
DESCRIPTION:Termite TV is excited to feature the work of Dunu Artists in Residence\, Joy Waldinger and Lee Bird  at the Termite TV studio at Cherry Street Pier from November 6- December 28th.\n\nJoin us on First Friday November 6th from 5-8pm  for the opening of their featured work to meet the artists. Visit termite.org for opportunities to stop by and meet the artists throughout the month.\n\nThroughout the summer of 2026\, Joy and Lee produced work on site and in collaboration with the Open Kitchen Sculpture Garden. Joy created a collaborative mural onsite and hosted a reading of Trash Crab\, a lovely children’s story of creativity in service of environmental sustainability.\n\nLee hosted workshops to create textile art\, using dyes and botanical printing techniques. Their work centers healing practices and regenerative possibilities.\n\nIn the studio\, they will feature documentation from their residency alongside original work that showcases their unique practices and approaches to building work inspired and rooted in the natural environment.\nJ. Eliza Wall (Joy Elisabeth Waldinger) is a storyteller (artist/writer/filmmaker) and educator from Philadelphia. She writes\, produces\, directs\, films\, and edits her short films. Her work explores various topics—the human condition\, family dynamics\, relationships\, nostalgia\, connection to nature\, and mental and physical health—in an attempt to restore connections in a fractured world. She believes that art is a powerful tool that can generate change and healing on a local and global level. Her short films have won awards in national and international film festivals and she has been published in a variety of literary magazines. In 2020 she published her children’s book Like The Sun Holds The Moon: A Children’s Book and her book\, Like The Sun Holds The Moon: A Novel was published during the lunar eclipse of May 2022 by Little Creek Press. Her newest children’s book (TRASH CRAB) was published by Little Creek Press on Earth Day 2023. \nLee Bird is a queer trans artist\, writer and wonderer in Philadelphia. His work explores themes of joy\, love\, grief\, compassion\, pleasure\, and community care as resistance to dominant culture that devalues all life. Evoking wonder\, curiosity and hope\, Lee makes art that centers reclaimed materials\, as well as homemade and Indigenous-made natural pigments. A self-taught illustrator and painter\, he has more than a decade of experience creating with fibers and textiles\, with a focus on botanical dyeing and natural printing techniques with homegrown plants\, and his practice today combines all of these passions. Lee has also owned his own boutique business making sustainable\, naturally dyed and printed ribbons\, and has been a doll maker and a fashion designer. Lee has a professional background in national nonprofit animal and environmental advocacy\, as well as degrees in poetry writing and literature\, with a focus on ecocritical theory and environmental philosophy.
