SUMMARY:Philly Tech Week - Places of Power
DESCRIPTION:Termite TV’s community-based “Places of Power” Augmented Reality / VR exhibition will be on view at Studio 1\, Cherry Street Pier from May 1 to May 30\, 2026. Join us on Thursday\, May 7\, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. as part of Philly Tech Week. “Places of Power” aims to inspire participatory\, community-driven\, technology-enabled media arts production in Philadelphia communities facing cultural erasure\, strengthening community bonds\, prompting intergenerational sharing\, and preserving stories and memories among the city’s underserved communities. \nThrough a process of co-creation\, Termite TV artists lead workshops in visual storytelling\, Virtual Reality (VR)\, Augmented Reality (AR) and 3D Photogrammetry. Using these emerging media tools allows participants to create immersive works and experiences that amplify the sense of memory\, kinship\, connection and empathy. Through the AR installations created by the participants\, physical landmarks and objects in the neighborhood are transformed into portals\, bringing to life the voices and memories of residents.

DESCRIPTION:Visual art play with two different mediums! \n\n\n\n\nSam Jacona brings us a custom workshop: Watercolor Undercover – \nWith Watercolor Undercover\, we can connect to the sense of playfulness and spontaneity with TermiteTV. This is a workshop that creates a way to play with multiple different materials to use the spontaneous effect of water and the control of crayons or oil pastels to uncover something the artists likes to express. With that said\, we are mending the two worlds of water and wax in a way that is similar to oil and water. Finding a way to mend them into a new way to create\, design\, story-tell. \nThe goal of this workshop is to show how different mediums can work together. Using oil pastels or crayons to make shapes and uncover them with watercolor. Using a predictable medium with a more unpredictable one. Through this process\, you can strengthen your connection to your surroundings\, enhance environmental awareness\, and cultivate a more mindful and meaningful relationship with the visual world. \nYou’ll walk away with personal artwork that translates\, through abstraction\, the intimate and subjective perception of your own environment. \n**No technical skills are required.
